Friends' Burial Ground to
19/28 north of High Sunbrick Farm

Burial Ground. 1st buried 1648. Stone rubble. Walls approx. 2m high
enclose area of 27m square. North wall has coping with upright stones and
entrance with flat slab over, and short walls projecting each side to south
side, probably a leant-to porch. Rock outcrop to north side of ground has
inscription, C19 or C20, recording its history. Between 1648 and 1767,
227 Friends were buried here; the most notable of these was Margaret Fox,
a pioneer of the Society of Friends. In 1669 she took as her 2nd husband
George Fox, the founder of the Society, and died in 1702.
