House. South wing and west wing C16; north wing and east wing C17, later
alterations. Stone rubble with sandstone ashlar dressings, part roughcast,
Welsh slate roof. Cruciform plan with short north wing. 2 storeys. Stacks
have rounded shafts. South wing west elevation of 3 irregular bays; 3-light
single-chamfered-mullioned windows with label moulds, but of 2 lights over
entrance to 2nd bay which has sunk triangular head and label over lintel,
originally had plaster panel reading: "K/16 67/WA" (William and Anne Kirkby)
relating to alterations. 2 cross-axial stacks, one adjoining gable-end stack
to higher north wing. South elevation has 3-light windows, that to 1st floor
with leaded glazing. East elevation has gabled wing with 2-light cellar
window, round-headed stair window and pivoted casement; remains of projecting
stack and small gable-end stack; casement windows to south. West wing has
south elevation of 2 bays; 3-light windows to 2nd bay; 1st bay has 2- and
3-light windows flanking entrance; cross-axial stack; west elevation has 1st
floor opening, part blocked; north elevation has signs of lean-to outshut,
1st floor sash and entrance. 3-bay gabled north wing has narrow gabled stair
wing to west. Ground floor has cross-casements with glazing bars; 1st floor
has part-blocked cross-casements, one leaded pane; entrance to 1st bay;
stair wing has fixed glazing to stair windows, blocked cross-casement with
casement window over. East wing is outbuilding; north elevation has entrance,
window and 2 pitching holes; south elevation has blocked entrance. Interior:
North wing has 1st floor room with bolection-moulded architrave to fireplace
and some similar panelling; stair has panelled square newels, turned
balusters and moulded handrail. North wing and part of west wing uninhabited
(1988).
