Formerly a large town house, now 3 shops with flats above. Mid
C17, restored in 1864. Half timbered with brick cladding and
extensions to rear; Kent tile gable-end roofs. 3 storeys and
attic. Almost symmetrical 3 bays, each gabled, the 2nd and attic
storeys jettied; the 1st floor was originally jettied, too,
before the insertion of the shop fronts. All uprights carved
with geometric decoration; plain rails (2 to each floor). gable
walls each with one 2-light Yorkshire sash window with glazing
bars; bargeboarding and apex finials dated 1864. 1st and 2nd
floors both with oriels, one to each bay and set off-centre,
canted 1:5:1 (to side bays), 1:8:1 (to middle bay), with transom
and mullions (including a king mullion to centre oriel), ovolo
moulded and supported on caved console brackets. Between the two
right-hand bays and in line with enriched brick ridge stack, a
5-light window to each floor with transom and mullions. All
windows with glazing bars and a small number of casements. C20
shop fronts with wooden surrounds and plate glass windows, that
to No 150 (to right) with glazing bars and panelled plinth.
Right-hand return with jettied attic, a 5-light casement window
to gable wall; 1st and 2nd floor canted oriels continuous, 1:5:1
with transom and mullions. Brick underpinning. Rear: various
elements under catslides; 2 separately hipped wings, one with
massive ridge stack; lower gabled extensions. Interior not
inspected.
