House. c.1500 Wealden hall-house of 4 bays with C20 additions.
Timber-framed with plaster infill. Steeply pitched tiled roof
with gablets and inserted C16 cruciform chimneystack, 2
storeys, 5 windows. 1st floor of southern window bay projects
on protruding end of floor joists with down braces but
northern bay has been underbuilt and a C20 bay in matching
close-studding attached. The eaves between the original
overhanging portions project on curved brackets and a bracket
in the centre. 5 C20 casement windows with small leaded panes.
Original arched doorcase with durns. C20 extension 1 storey in
brick to right hand side and rear. 2 storey C20 of extension
to rear. Interior has dragon beam to south and roll-moulded
end of hall beam. Inserted C16 ceiling with lambs' tongue
stops and open fireplace with wooden bressumer and carved
spandrels. Jowled posts. 1st floor has exposed tie beams and
old floor boards. Octagonal crown post with 3 head braces
(originally 4) to collar beam. A moated site with moat
remaining.
