Poplar House (formerly
listed as Wayside and
Tregonnen)
II
House. C16 or earlier, altered early C18. Timber framed and clad with red and
blue brick and weather boarding. Plain tiled roof. Lobby entry plan, probably
of hall house origin. Two storeys, both return elevation jettied with moulded
wooden modillion eaves cornice to roof, half-hipped to left, hipped to right,
with centre left cruci-form stack cluster. Two 3 light and 2 light wooden case-
ments on 1st floor, and 3 light metal casement and 3 and 2 light wooden casem-
ents on ground floor. Boarded door to centre left. The stack has a plastered
section with an heraldic crest incised upon it. The house is either an end-
jettied hall house, a re-fronted Wealden or a re-fronted continuous-jetty build-
ing (ie ranging from possible early C15 to mid C16 dates.)
