House, now museum. c.1800. Brick with stone dressings and
stone slate roof. Three storeys with 3 bays on the upper
floors, the ground floor having been altered to accommodate
2 multipaned bay windows. There is evidence of a former
central entrance. The windows have stone sills and wedge
lintels, and replacement glazing bars. The roof is hipped
at the front and gabled at the rear. The premises were
opened as the first shop of the Co-operative Movement by
Rochdale Equitable Pioneers Society in 1844.
