SD 81 NE ROCHDALE THRUM HALL LANE

3/113 Thrum Hall

G.V. II

House. Built 1823 for Travis. Coursed rubble with ashlar
dressings and stone roof. Square in plan with central
entrance and staircase, former ballroom to right and two
rooms to left. The house takes the form and style of an
Italianate villa. The 2-storey 3-bay front elevation has a
central entrance with Doric porch which is a latter
addition. Two tier end pilasters with engraved
hyroglyphics, sash windows and sill band to first floor and
heavy projecting bracketed stone eaves. Low pitched hipped
roof crowned by central decorative chimney stack with
pilasters, circular headed glazed lights, bracketed eaves
and numerous crown pots. The flues follow a tortuous route
from the outer walls to make their way to the central stack.
The grand staircase has a heavy handrail, bulbous balusters
and a closed string, all carved out of one piece of stone in
length of about six steps. The rear parlour has Adam style
plasterwork.
