C15. Timber-framed in oak with close studding infilled with C19 roughcast. C19 tiled
roof. Wealden type hall house comprising central hall (later divided into 2 storeys)
with north and south bays jettied at front, north bay jettying intact, but south bay
has been underbuilt. Both bays have curved braces to ground and first floors. Curved
eaves overhang to hall supported on 2 curved braces and bracket springing from the
main post of the hall.
Inspected in the 1890's by architect Robert Weir Schultz for the owner George M Arnold
FSA, who stripped the house of later work in order to make measured drawings of the
timber frame. Described as "a typical specimen of a yeoman's house of the 15th or
early 16th centuries". (Arch Cant Vol 27 pp 193-200).
