Church. C12 or earlier origins, rebuilt 1849-50 by Chantrell. Re-used
ashlar, slate roofs. 5 1/2-bay nave with west bellcote, 3-bay chancel. Nave:
shallow plinth, pilaster buttresses, grooved string course. East bay has
paired, narrow, round-headed windows: single, narrow round-headed windows to
remainder. The head of each is cut from a single block with shallow incised
chevron ornament. South door of 3 orders in shallow projecting porch
beneath a corbelled roof: stylised beakhead to outer order, beakhead to
central order, stylised beakhead again to inner order all under shallow
hoodmould with incised chevrons. Nook-shafts with scalloped capitals to
outer order and carved capitals to central and inner orders supporting
hollow-chamfered abaci with repeating rosettes. Moulded bases. C12 corbel
table with a succession of masks and beasts, under-a-Lombard frieze.
Bellcote in Romanesque style of paired and round-headed openings with nook-
and mid-wall shafts to cardinal faces under heavy corbel table and pyramidal
stone roof. Chancel: shallow plinth, pilaster buttresses. Decorated
string, interrupted by buttresses, of diagonally-set squares in relief
between wave motif. 3 narrow round-headed windows under hoodmoulds.
Priests' door with shouldered arch. Corbel table with grotesques and a
mounted warrior with spear under-a-Lombard frieze. 3 round-headed windows
under hoodmoulds to east end. Raised coped gables to nave and chancel.
Interior: plain and whitewashed. Chancel arch of 3 square orders with nook-
shafts with cubical caps and bases. Over the south door a vesica with
narrow roll-moulding holding triple figures - perhaps intended to represent
The Trinity.
