Stable block. c1781-6; By John Carr for Thomas Grimston, right wing remodelled in mid C20 by Francis Johnson & Partners. Courtyard plan. Red brick in English garden wall bond, graduated slate roof. Main range: single storey with central 2-storey tower, 3 bays flanked by half bays. Single-storey cross wings of 3½ bays terminating in canted bays. Main range: 3 pointed double-leaf carriage doors; similar, smaller, openings to half bays. Crenellated parapet and pyramidal roof with windvane to central tower. Right cross wing: central pointed door with intersecting glazing bars flanked by pointed sashes with glazing bars. Windows in form of Maltese cross to canted bay; crenellated parapet. Left wing: three 6-panel Gothick doors under pointed brick arches alternating with pointed 6-pane sashes with intersecting glazing bars. Similar canted bay to right wing: in the centre of each is a 6-panel Gothick door beneath a circular sunk panel bearing heraldic shield. Crenellated parapet. Fourth side of courtyard was enclosed c1930 with walls in non-matching brickwork with gate piers and ball finials.
