House. 1780. For Bernard Clarkson. Polychrome brick in Flemish bond,
plain tile roof. Central-hallway entry. 2 storeys, 3 bays, with pedimented
central bay breaking forward. 6-fielded-panel door with radial fanlight in
Tuscan doorcase with square-section pilasters, flower motif to frieze and
open pediment. Sashes with glazing bars beneath flat rubbed brick arches
throughout. Moulded timber cornice and open pediment. Stacks rising
through rear pitch of roof. Interior: cantilevered open-string staircase
with column-on-vase balusters and ramped handrail. Sitting room: fine fire
surround with acanthus capitals to pilasters with swags and floral motifs to
panels of frieze. Fluted alcoves flank fireplace, that to right containing
doorway. Some 6-fielded-panel doors remain.
