GV II
Cottage. C16 - C17. Timber-framed, brick panels, part-cased in rubble,
tiled roof, local type external rubble chimney with detached brick shaft.
One storey and attic, 3 bays, the left hand one over a cellar, regular
casements: 4-pane C20 casement to left bay, 4-pane small C19 casement to
centre and 5-pane C20 bay window to right bay; 3 raking-top dormers one
to each bay of 3, 2 and 3 panes respectively; central entrance under C20
glazed gabled porch. Right hand gable is weatherboarded. Frame-generally
4 panels high to left, because of the cellar to this bay, is underbuilt
to rear and shows from sawn-off tenons evidence of having been larger
by at least one bay to left when it may have covered a cider-mill now
exposed in the garden. Interior: right hand bay has small wind-braces;
a pair of former full cruck blades is visible between centre and right
hand bays: they are cut off below their closure in the roof space.
(Formerly Nos 1, 2 and 3 Newbards).
