II
House, formerly divided into two tenements. C17, extended probably early
C18 and restored late C20. Timber-framed with rendered infill on rubble
base, some painted brick replacement walling and some sandstone rubble
walling. Slate roofs. L-plan. Original part of two framed bays aligned
north/south and has large external rubble chimney with stone-tiled-offsets
and brick stack on west side of north bay. Extended by two framed bays
adjoining east side of south bay having external rubble chimney with rebuilt
brick stack and lean-to-bread oven on north side. Mainly two storeys.
Framing: original part has three panels from sill to wall-plate and collar
and tie-beam trusses with three struts at each end. Later part has two rows
of panels at first floor level, short straight braces across the upper corners
and a tie-beam truss with lattice struts at the east end. East front elevation:
windows are C20 casements. Original part has a 2-light ground floor window and
a gabled half-dormer with a 2-light window in the north bay. Gable end of east
wing has a ground and first floor 3-light window. In the angle are two first
floor single-light windows, a single-storey lean-to with a single-light window
at the east end and, at the western end, a C20 porch with a single-light window
and C20 door. There is also a timber-framed lean-to outshut on the west side
of the south bay of the original part. Interior has some stop-chamfered
ceiling beams and a large fireplace to the west chimney. (RCHM, Herefs, III,
