The Old Manor

House. Late C16, restored c1930. Timber-framed, brick infill, brick
replacement walling on sandstone rubble plinth and plain tiled roof.
Four framed bays on a roughly north/south axis, large central chimney,
with group of four octagonal shafts to rear of ridge, and forming a lobby
entry to main east elevation. Two storeys and attic with dormers. Framing:
brick replacement walling at ground-floor level; first-floor level has three
panels from girding beam to wall-plate, long straight braces in lower corners
of front and rear elevations; short straight braces in upper corners of north
gable end; collar and tie-beam trusses at gable ends with two collars; north
gable end truss has five struts to lower collar, three to upper collar and
V-strut in apex; south end truss has three struts to lower collar and two
to upper collar, other struts and section of lower collar replaced with brick.
Main east elevation: irregular fenestration; all windows are C20 leaded case-
ments and have plank weatherings at ground-floor level; a 4-light, a 3-light,
a narrow rectangular light and two 2-light windows on the ground floor and
two 2-light and three narrow rectangular lights on the first floor; two small
gabled dormers with 2-light casements; central C20 hipped-roofed timber-framed
porch with brick infill on a brick plinth; rectangular light faces east and
C20 door set in right side. Attic lights and scalloped bargeboards at gable
ends. Interior: large back-to-back fireplaces. C20 outshut beneath catslide
roof runs almost the full length of west elevation and has an external chimney
with paired diagonal shafts; also lean-to extension at north gable end. A
large timber-framed house, well restored in the early C20.
