Farmhouse. Early C17, altered mid- to late C19; restored mid-C20. Timber-
framed, painted brick and rendered infill on lias limestone rubble plinth,
plain tiled roofs. Main part is of lobby-entry plan having three framed
bays aligned north-west/south-east, the narrow central fireplace bay is
surmounted by a group of four diagonal ridge stacks; service cross-wing of
two framed bays at south-east end. Two tall storeys, attic and cellar.
Framing: main part is close-studded on ground floor with high-level mid-rail
and mainly four square panels from first-floor level to wall-plate; long
straight braces in lower corners; north-west gable end has a collar and tie-
beam truss with two collars, two struts survive to lower collar (the rest
are replaced by a window); three struts to the upper collar and a V-strut
in the apex; cross-wing has five rows of panels from sill to wall-plate and
collar and tie-beam trusses with two struts to collar and V-strut in apex.
North-east front elevation: regular fenestration of one window per bay on
both floors; ground floor of main part has 9-light wood-mullioned C20 oriels;
first floor has original oriels on central console with 3-light C19 casements
and a central 2-light wood-mullioned C20 oriel; C20 central door; cross-wing
has plank weatherings at main floor levels and a ground- and first-floor
window similar to those in the main part; there is also a C20 oriel on the
attic storey. Attic light in south-east gable end. Interior: the main
part is noted as having retained its central back-to-back fireplaces. The
front elevation is reported as having had a two-storey porch wing originally.
