Mausoleum of Sir Joseph Bazalgette (died 1891). Portland stone. Square rusticated
base with arched entrance, cast iron gates reached by descending steps. Battered
block above with simple cornice and corner acroteria. He was the designer of
the main London trunk sewer system and the builder of the Victoria and Albert
Embankments in the 1860's while chief engineer to the Metropolitan Board of
Works 1866-89.
