Almshouses. 1869. J P Seddon. Ashlar with red tile roof. Gothic style.
L Shaped block with ten bay range at right-angles to road and two bay range
at far end. One storey and semi-dormers. Ground floor slightly projects
under continuous tiled roof; beneath are arranged shared entrances for each
pair of units, alternating with canted bay windows. Doorways with pointed
heads and timber entrance doors with 'ray' motif. To upper storey one two-
light mullioned and transomed window per unit, with gable in roof. Eaves
cornice breaks out over Gothic shafts, between tall multi-shafted chimneys.
To west end a tower with tall mansard roof and two layers of arcading, the
lower with statues. Inscription to end gable 'Sir William Powell's Alms-
houses; founded 1680. Rebuilt 1869. God's providence our inheritance'.
Much carved decoration to whole.
