Pair of houses. Circa mid C18, altered. Stucco. Slated, double pitched, hipped
roof, 2 storeys plus basement, 3 bays to Turkey Street, with segmental headed
sashed windows; centre bay blind. Entrance to each house in return elevations,
each of 3 bays with central entrance with gabled Victorian porch; segmental
headed sashed windows. Stucco band between first and second storeys to front
and sides, and rusticated quoins in stucco. Bracketed eaves. 2 large stacks.
Interiors retain much mid C18 work, including staircases of wider design except
for ground to first floor flights which have turned balusters. No 140 retains
complete panelling to ground and first floor, with cornices, arched niche cup-
boards, original doors, retaining 'L' shaped hinges, and one surviving original
chimneypiece (others recently removed), etc. Walls covered to No 138, but probably
also retains early features below; C18 shelved niche to rear ground floor room,
etc.
