Parish church. 1904 by Caröe, successor to C19 church of St Bartholomew, Moor Lane, itself the successor to Wren's St Bartholomew by the Bank, from whence come the present font cover and pulpit attributed to Grinling Gibbons.
Cruciform church with aisles, long, low proportions. Red brick with freestone dressings and tiled roofs. Free Tudor style with Art Nouveau detail. Nave and aisle parapets ramped up over buttresses. Very varied window tracery. Bellcote with shingled spire at crossing, and at west end, extended ridge over hanging bell. Small, half octagonal west projection.
Inside long nave with four centred arcade arches without capitals but with incurving hollow chamfer forming clerestory corbels in their place. (Undercroft at east end has chapel with rib-vaulting of early C13 type running straight into piers). Gallery at west end. Slanted access from side chapels to sanctuary. Good moulded and embattled timber roofs.
