1671-81, by Sir Christopher Wren, on the site of an earlier church. Interior destroyed in World War II and reconstructed in near facsimile. Unaisled body with vestries at west end and tower in north west corner. Exterior of Portland stone with arched and corniced windows, entablature and high balustrade. West elevation irregular with exposed rubble and brickwork. Pedimented doorway towards west end of south side and in north face of tower. Tower has arched openings with pedimented cornice and blocking topped by 4 urns. The lead-covered spire has small oval and circular windows, gallery and weather vane Interior has beamed ceiling supported by Corinthian pilasters. 3 arched openings at west end are partly filled by vestries etc with gallery over. Original pulpit, font cover, altar rails and iron sword rest. See Colvin's Biographical Dictionary of Architects, 2nd Edition, P931.
