Railings, gate standards and 2 pairs of gates. Early C19.
Wrought iron with cast iron decorative features. Separate pairs
of gates in short stretches of railing linked by a convex bowed
stretch. Simple square uprights with cast spearheads. Heavier
buttressed bars at intervals on inside. Low standard at the
start of the bowed stretch has paired wrought iron buttresses
with cast iron decorative infill and terminal of anthemion
fronds with rosettes. Similar infill to tall gate piers carried
up in wrought iron to a pronged lamp support with painted (?
copper) lanterns. Gates constructed as railings but with curved
brace rising to centre of each leaf. An essential frontage
feature to the college.
