House. 1882, for New River Company as Engineer's house for Rye
Common Pumping Station qv. Yellow brick with buff gauged arches
and stone brackets to eaves. Hipped red tile roof. A 2-storeys
house facing E. Symmetrical 3-windows front with deep segmental
arches. Recessed sash windows to upper floor with 2/2 panes
flank a central blind recess. Very heavy projecting moulded
cornice at floor level. Projecting round arched doorway with
radial fanlight. Wide segmental arched recesses each side with 2
narrow round headed windows. Gigantic eaves overhang on moulded
stepped brackets, paired as corners. Narrower rear wing similar.
Projecting gable chimneys. Forms a group with the Pumping
Station.
