Barn. Probably C15 and C17, loft mid C19. Timber-framed on
stone plinth, corrugated-iron roof. Six bay barn, slight bend in
centre, in plan, loft in one end. To yard, double boarded doors
to threshing floors to one panel below eaves, one bay in from each
end. Plinth steps up to right in centre: boarded-over pitching
hole on right. Weatherboarding: some inset boards between studs
on left: some butt-jointed boarding on right. To field, plinth
same, doors to eaves, one each set in 2 halves: boarded-over
pitching hole to loft. Generally weatherboarding, butt-jointed
boarding to one central bay.
Interior: threshing floors stone paved. That on right flanked by
cruck trusses, originally with collar and spurs, collars now
missing. Inserted low brick plinth on left, timber sill above:
loft inserted on right with shafting to drive feed preparation
machinery. One pair purlins, square ridge. Centre truss hidden
at time of inspection (1985) by hay. Left threshing floor low
sill wall each side, timber top, angled braces rise to main posts,
straight above to tie beam, central vertical post (one angled brace
missing on right, one short above on left). Doors narrower than
threshing floor, framing 3 panels high. Trusses tie beam, collar,
angle struts: 2 pairs purlins, square ridge. Reported originally
thatched.
