Lock Cottage. 1812-13, substantially rebuilt in Mid C19. Brick
with plain tile hipped roofs. Lateral stack and ridge stack. Dog
toothed eaves cornice. L plan. 2 storeys, 4 bays. Canal front has
central doorway with extended porch with lean-to roof. To left
and right, single windows with cambered arches. To right again,
a doorway with cambered arch. Above, 3 windows: a narrow, central
casement, with to left and right, C20 12-light, top-hung frames,
all with cambered arches. Single storey, pitched roof extension
adjoining to left of cottage, possibly a stable. One of a
dwindling number of lock cottages standing at the top of
important lock flights, it has group value with listed items:
Lock 58; Canal Bridge about 100 metres W.S.W. of Lock 58;
Workshops about 75 metres south-east of Tardebigge Tunnel; South
portal of Tardebigge Tunnel q.v.
