Barn. Probably C16. Timber-framed, weatherboarded and partly rebuilt
in red brick. Plain tile roof with gabled ends. Plan: Large 6-bay barn
with aisle on SW side only, probably originally further bays on north
west end. Later outshuts and midstrey added on north east side.
Exterior: North east side has catslide roof over outshuts, brick at
either end with brick midstrey to right of centre and with lower
weatherboarded timber frame outshut at centre. On south west side the
original aisle wall has been rebuilt in brick; cart entrances to left
and right and 2 gabled loft doors at centre. NW and SE gable ends are
weatherboarded. Interior: Main frame is largely intact except for
rebuilt aisle wall and missing original studding and rails on north
east wall and south east end. Tall jowled aisle-posts with curved
braces to aisle-plate and tie-beams. Queen-posts of cruck blade form
supporting principals and collars which clasp diagonally-set through
purlins; the principals diminished above the collars. Curved wind-
braces to the clasped purlins but none to the tenoned (butt) purlins
below; similar butt-purlins in aisle. Common rafter couples complete
and no ridge-piece. Some of the aisle ties may have been replaced.
