Farmhouse. C16 S part, narrower C16/C17 middle part, C18 N part partly dug into
hillside, C19 narrow parallel 2-storeys rear range on SE. Timber frames cased
in red brick but exposed in S end with brick infill, and in N end with plaster
infill. Steep old red tile roofs. An irregular 2-storeys, 3 windows long house
facing W with 3-light casement windows and separate doors into the S and middle
parts. 2 external gable chimneys at S and former large external N gable chimney
to middle part now rises through N part. 2-bays, S part is oldest,originally
of 2 storeys and probably jettied on W side it has heavy jowled posts, cranked
tension braces in N end wall, remains of wattle and daub infill, wide-spaced storey-
height studs, remains of 4-light diamond mullioned 1st floor rear window, clasped-
purlin roof with collar-and queen-struts and curved wind-braces. Ground floor
of N bay has heavy stone slab floor and stair rising to lst floor beside a chamfered
cross-beam with hollow stops. Narrower middle part, of one bay with axial floor
beam and clasped-purlin roof with inclined straight queen-posts and straight
wind-braces, probably formed a service wing to the house with a large N gable chimney.
The N part was originally open to the roof with clasped-purlin structure and
external chimney on E side. Stair and floor recently inserted.
