Pumphouse

Disused pumphouse for raising water to gardens of Clermont Hall. Early C19.
Limewashed brick with some stone dressings. Slate roof. Square in plan. Single storey. 3-bay facade of a doorway with flanking windows. 2-centred arches to openings with raised keystones and imposts in stone. 2-light Gothic frame survives in eastern window. Boarded door. Pyramidal roof.
Interior. Machinery intact with an iron breast shot waterwheel driving a three-throw pump designed by Joseph Bramah. Listed II* for the rare Bramah pump.
