1846-47, Robert Stephenson, monumental semi-circular tunnel portal with concave
reveals, ashlar voussoirs and keystone stepped to head. Set in broad frame
with rusticated quoins against engineering brickwork surmounted by block bracketed
cornice with pediment blocking course. The whole projects from engineering
brick retaining wall swept out to down-curving quadrant abutments. The tunnel
gives access to New street and was built as part of the Stour Valley Railway's
line to Wolverhampton.
