OLD SWINFORD
CHURCH ROAD
The Castle
8.11.49
II
Early C19. Irregular. Red brick and part stucco. Mullioned fenestration throughout. Mock barbican gatehouse with stepped gable above. Embattlements and turrets throughout. An extravagant example of castellation and of little intrinsic merit, though in keeping with its immediate environment.
The listed buildings in Church Road and Rectory Road, Old Swinford do not strictly present a group, but the existing picture is one which should be preserved.
