House. Early C17 core; C19 and C20 exterior, restored 1994/5.
Timber-framed; partly replaced by red brick, rendered on the
ground storey and exposed on the rear wing; the upper storey
rear rendered in panels formerly with traces of red ochre
colouring; an external chimney-stack in red brick added during
restoration to the south gable. Plaintiled roofs. A
chimney-stack with truncated shaft is set just within the
frame at the north end.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. The upper windows are all C20 3-light
timber casements with a single horizontal bar to lights. 2
single-storey lean-to extensions with slate roofs added along
the front in 1994. A heavily weathered cambered collar in the
north gable indicates the original side-purlin roof.
INTERIOR: on the ground storey timbers are exposed within the
2-and-a-half bays on the south side. The joists and beams of
the ceiling and the main posts on the rear wall survive, the
joists square in section, the main beams deep and relatively
narrow. An original partition wall has been removed. On the
upper storey a change of floor level at the north end
indicates that the 2 sides of the building are of different
dates. At the south end, one truss with a cambered tie-beam,
supported by long arched braces; main posts with shallow
jowls; studding along front wall with arched braces and the
position of an original window.
