1837. Architect Wallett and William Parsons. Erected as Leicestershire
Lunatic Asylum. Large rectangular block of buildings in gault brick.
Symmetrical front elevation has four projecting wings of three storeys
three windows each, the recessed blocks between being of two storeys eight
windows on each side, and three storeys seven windows in centre. The
centre block has a three-window centre breaking forward under a pediment.
The first floor windows have cornices to the side windows and a pediment
to that in centre. All sashes with glazing bars. Central double doors
(modern) under moulded pediment and shouldered architrave. Stone bands
and plinth throughout the whole elevation. Plain frieze and moulded cornice
in stone. Small brick parapet. Slate hipped roof. Blocks at rear connected
by late C19 wings.
