association with the church spire in the town centre. North end of Church Square
facade contains large square tower. Red brick with outer brick pilasters, eaves
cornice and coped parapet. Truncated pyramidal roof terminates in domed cupola
and is interrupted, near the top of the tower, by 4 louvred vents forming a continuous
band on each facade. The roof curves out above this and is supported on arched
brackets above the louvred panels. 5 storeys, top one has a band of 5 windows;
below, 4-light window with mullions, transom and large round-arched light, with
radial glazing bars, overall. 1st and 2nd floors have 3 sashes; ground floor
advanced under penthouse roof, 5-light window with mullions. Angled corner section
of 3 storeys 3 windows, eaves cornice and parapet rising in centre. Corner entrance.
Facade to Adam and Eve Street of 4 storeys with eaves cornice and parapet. Centre
large gable with window rank in round-arched recess, flanked by 2 windows to west
(1st and 2nd floor now bricked up), and 2 pairs of windows to east. Flanking
these, paired smaller gables, then 2 pairs of windows to east and 2 single ones
to west. This facade terminated, at west end, by large gable similar to centre.
All top windows below gables have round-arched top lights with radial glazing.
Brick mullions to top storey windows, those between gables with flat arches,
all others with segmental arches. The eastern part of No 11 and its tower in
Church Square, are prominent features in many near and distant views of the town
centre.
