Early C19 facade but with earlier core including some early C17 features. Local
legend attributes the early ownership of the house to Captain Anthony Jenkinson,
(reputedly a friend of Shakespeare's) who travelled extensively in Central Asia
and was the first Englishman there. He died in 1611. (Ref. Dict. of Nat. Biography).
2 storeys. 5 windows, sashes with glazing bars and keystones, 2 of ground floor
windows are of 3 lights. Slate roof with centre and end chimneys. Round arched
door with stone archivolt and keystone, fanlight. Brick gable end of 2 storeys,
2 windows (1 an insertion). Rear lower red brick facade of 2 storeys. 4 windows
and square hipped roof outshut in corner. Eastern section thought to be oldest
part. Beams with wide chamfers.
