House, possibly early Cl7th, altered. Rendered brick with slate roof.
H-plan. 2 stories with attic. East front has a small stair outshut against
the north wall of the south cross-wing. Adjoining the south side of the north
cross-wing is a gabled stair wing. The recessed part of the facade has a
ground-floor loggia of Tuscan columns with embattled parapet. Windows are
casements in rendered surrounds. South cross-wing of 2 bays. On ground floor
are 2 C17th 3-light chamfered mullioned windows with hood. The single attic
window of similar type is of 4 lights with hood. The north cross-wing has 2
windows on the ground floor and a single 6-light double-chamfered mullioned
window of C17th type with hood on the 1st floor. The adjoining stair wing has
a single window. Above the loggia are 4 windows. Behind it are 2 doorways, the
left-hand one with pointed head, the right-hand one having a door with raised
panels, the upper ones shouldered. Main chimney between 2 doorways. West facade
has casement windows with plain reveals. South wing projects considerably
towards west. Adjoining its north side is a shorter parallel wing, of 2 bays.
The recessed part of the facade is of 2 bays, as is the north cross-wing. The
north wall of the north cross-wing has a chimney with a brick cap of zig-zag
outline on plan. Interior. The hall, in the northern part of the central
section, has a moulded shouldered fireplace of C18th type, and 2 boxed axial .
beams. It has wall panelling of C17th type, with raised diamonds on the panels,
probably re-set. Other woodwork details, including the doors, shutters, and
stair handrail, are of early C18th type. The west room of the north cross-wing
has a timber cornice, and Corinthian pilasters at intervals around the walls.
