- Cottage
- II
Pair of houses, probably early-to-mid C19. Sandstone rubble with tile
roofs. Unusual plan, with 2 blocks at right-angles , the rear corners of
their gable walls abutting an octagonal tower which is set between them. 2
storeys. Belvedere Cottage, facing south, is of 2 bays and has modern
windows with plain stone surrounds. The right-hand ground-floor window has
been enlarged. The left-hand window is covered by a single-storey lean-to
porch. Left-hand gable coped with kneelers. Chimney on right-hand gable.
Belvedere Farmhouse, facing west, is of 3 bays, the left-hand bay being a
later addition. Its windows have plain stone surrounds and are sashed or
sashed with glazing bars except for the right-hand one on the 1st floor,
which is modern. Door at left has quoined surround. Between the 2nd and
3rd bays is a single-storey gabled porch. Chimney to left of 2nd bay.
Coped gables with kneelers. Both of the gables which abut the tower have
blocked doorways within round super-arches. The tower has 2 bands and a
parapet with coping. Of the 3 faces visible in the angle between the
wings, the outer ones have narrow windows with plain stone surrounds,
sashed on the ground floor and sashed with glazing bars on the 1st floor.
The central face has a door with quoined surround on the ground floor and
a blocked opening above.
