Church, 1864-70, by H. Macauley. Rock-faced sandstone with ashlar dressings,
steeply pitched slate roof with bands of green fishscale slates. Nave with
one aisle, transepts, chancel, south-east tower with a spire; in free early
Gothic style. Entrance at south end, by double doors, tympanum with carved
emblem of the Evangelist under banded 2-centred arch; paired lancets each
side; above, a large plate traceried 3-light window flanked by single-light
windows. Five-bay nave with gabled porch on west side and 3 cross gables
to aisle on east side; trefoils in these gables, otherwise most windows of
2 cusped lancets. Unusual 3-stage tower with free-standing pinnacles on
colonnettes beside the octagonal spire. Interior: 3-bay aisle arcade on
columns with crocketed capitals; chancel arch with corbelled shafts;
gallery at south end. Wagon roofs, polygonal to chancel.
