Farmhouse, and Fir Trees
(formerly listed as Foxstones
Farmhouse)

GV II
Farmhouse, now 3 dwellings. Mostly C18, perhaps remodelling of C17. Coursed
squared sandstone with quoins, and stone slate roof, Central hall range
(farmhouse) with receding gabled wings (cottage to left, Fir Trees to right).
Two storeys; gables flush with main facade, which has at the left end a
studded door in moulded round-headed architrave with imposts, triple keystone,
and fanlight with Y-tracery, a vertical rectangular window above (altered
glazing), and on each floor to the right a king-mullioned window of 3 + 3
lights with square mullions. Left wing has a similar 4-light, window on each
floor (offset to right), a door at mid-level (because of higher ground level
here) and a sashed window above, both these with plain surrounds, and stone
gable coping with kneelers; return wall of 2 unequal bays has a 3-light flush
mullion window at ground floor and a 12-pane sash above, and on each floor of
the larger rear bay a 6-light square mullioned window with glazing bars in all
lights. Right wing has a doorway at ground floor altered as a window, and a
vertical rectangular window above, both with plain surrounds and glazing bars;
stone gable coping with kneelers. Rear of farmhouse has, inter alia, at 1st
floor a recessed 4-light window with chamfered mullions (the only C17 feature
visible). Various ridge chimneys. Interior of less interest.
