13/20 The original block at Crosshills School

GV II

School, 1849. Snecked, squared sandstone with ashlar dressings and quoins.
Slate roof. Cross-wing at left-hand side of facade with gable towards the
street. Lower gabled porch adjoining to the right. Gable has 6-light
mullioned and transomed chamfered window with hood mould. Above this is
a carved stone tablet with hood mould and 'Fear God' on a deeply undercut
scroll. Under the apex is a one-light chamfered window. The doorway in
the porch has a chamfered surround, 4-centred head and hood mould, with
'1849' on a panel above. Porch has shaped bargeboards. Right-hand return
wall of porch has a one-light chamfered window with hood mould. Left-hand
return wall of cross wing has a mullioned and transomed window with
square-sectioned hood mould and chimney with shaped offsets.
