House, probably c.1600, altered, restored c.1970. Slobbered rubble with slate
roof. 2 storeys. North-east wall has window at left with chamfered surround.
To its right, partly above the door, is a window with plain reveals. Further
right are 2 small windows with plain reveals. The door has long-and-short
jambs and an inner pegged timber frame. Chimneys on gables and to right of
door. The south-west wall has irregularly-spaced openings with plain reveals:
7 windows to the ground floor and 4 to the 1st floor. To the right of the
left-hand window is a door. Inside are 3 cruck trusses. The central one is
fully visible in a hall open to the roof. Its tie beam has been removed and
the ridge now rests on the collar. Beside the hearth is a spere formed by a
sandstone flag with rails above grooved for wattles. The heck post is
chamfered and stopped. To the right of the hearth is a spice cupboard with
door missing. Above the north-western end of the hall part of the 1st floor
has been retained, now forming a gallery. Below this floor the low-end wall
has exposed timber framing in large panels, with 2 timber doorways. Above the
floor is decorative plasterwork: a large framed panel has a vine tree and
peacocks. At floor level to the right are smaller panels with strapwork
decoration, suggesting that the floor may have been inserted. The south-east
room has a shouldered fireplace and chamfered and stopped ceiling joists.
