II
Large house built in 1848 on site of earlier building. Sandstone rubble
with slate roof. Domestic Gothic style. 4-storey embattled tower at rear,
with octagonal corner turret. South facade symmetrical of 2 storeys with
a projecting gabled bay at each side and a recesed 2-bay centre with
central attic dormer. Windows mullioned and transomed, with flat heads,
hoods, and Tudor-arched heads to the lights. On the ground floor of the
outer bays they are of 8 lights, on the lst floor of 6 lights. The 2
central bays have windows of 4 lights. The attic windows are of 2 lights
with mullions. The doorway has a moulded surround with Tudor-arched head.
Other architectural detail is obscured by a creeper. Gables have copings
and ball finials. The numerous chimneys have octagonal shafts. Interior
not accessible at time of survey, but said to contain panelling from
Robert Hall, Tatham C.P. (q.v.)
