12/2 Border Side Farmhouse and barn
- adjoininq to west
- II
House, early C19th, with barn having late C17th remains. Sandstone rubble
with house roof of slate and barn roof of stone slate. House double-depth
plan, 2 storeys, 2 bays. Windows have plain stone surrounds and are sashed
with glazing bars except for the left-hand one on the ground floor which
is modern. Gable chimneys. The barn, at the left, is covered by a lean-to
addition. On the north side the house has windows with plain stone
surrounds. Between the two bays is a stair window, with a door to its
left. The barn, to the right, has a wide entrance with plain reveals and
timber lintel to its right. Further left is a blocked mullioned window. At
the far left, adjoining the house, is a doorway with one chamfered jamb
and a shaped lintel inscribed: '1676 IPE'. Inside, blocked openings in the
barn walls suggest that it may be the remains of a C17th house.
