The George House (formerly
1.8.52 listed as The George Hotel)

GV II*

House, later the George Inn, now house. Mid-C16, altered 1714. Rendered with
painted mock square-framing on 1st floor. Hipped plain tiled roof with gablet
to left, ridge stack to rear at right and left end stack. Continuous jetty
carried round both corners and along both sides on moulded bressummers, dragon-
beams and dragon-posts. 4-wing plan with small internal courtyard. 2 storeys;
irregular 2-window 1st floor with quadripartite sash to left and casement to
right, and 3-window ground floor, 6-light C19 wooden transom and mullion
windows. Door to right of central window, doubled, both parts half-glazed with
late C19 engraved public house glass, inscribed 'The George Inn'. Raised
lettering off-centre to right on 1st floor in panel, S . C
