Public house, C18, altered mid C19. Rendered on flint with plain
tiled roof. Two storeys and attic with basement on flint plinth with
parapet to half-hipped roof with 3 flat roofed dormers and stacks to rear
left and to rear right. Regular fenestration of 5 sashes to first floor
and 4 to ground floor with canopies. Basement opening to left. Central
double glazed doors in large projecting Doric porch with heavy cornice
and rails, surmounted by an eagle, and with 3 steps to pavement. Large
central wrought iron sign bracket. Left return with weatherboarded
rear ranges canted bay to ground floor, and half-glazed doors in canted
corner sections. The name supposedly derived from an eagle shot in
flight over Ramsgate, at least before 1809. (Mirams Ramsgate's
Old Pubs, p.15).
