House. "WMG : 1697" (William and Mary Greaves) on porch
lintel but with considerable C20 alterations. Rendered stone
with C20 tile roof. A long 2-storey building retaining a
good single-storey porch. The porch is castellated and has
large corner ball finials, an unusual gargoyle, a cornice
band and a moulded door surround with segmental-arched dated
lintel. Porch seats internally are equipped with circular
squints. A 4-light double-chamfered mullion window to the
left (with 2 mullions removed) has a hoodmould, otherwise
the house has adopted the character of C20 materials and
alterations. Hewn beams internally. H. Fishwick, History
of Rochdale, 1889.
