Farmhouse. C16 or C17 timber-framed house which has been
successively altered and rebuilt in later centuries. The
walls of the original timber-framed structure are all either
rendered or rebuilt in brick. Graduated stone slate and C20
tile roof. H-shaped 2-storey plan with wing to rear. Gabled
crosswings project to left and right, the former being
partly rebuilt in C20 brick. Central gabled porch. 3 or 4
C20 casement windows on each floor. Brick ridge chimney
stack. Similar windows to rear. Interior: most of the roof
structure, a considerable amount of the floor structure and
some of the original timber framing remains intact. The
floor beams may have been inserted into an open hall in the
late C16. Tie-beam trusses have inclined struts and show
evidence through mortice holes of the form of the timber
framed structure. The extent of the framework buried in
the walls in unknown although the principals are clearly
visible. Early C18 dogleg staircase with deep rail and
turned balusters. Panelled doors.
