Office building. 1890's. Stone with yellow brick to left
hand return. 3 storeys with basement and attic, 1 bay and
corner turret to left, 3-bay return. Ground floor has
mullioned and transomed window with entrance to right which
has flanking Corinthian flat pilasters on plinths.
Inscription over door heads "GUARDIAN ASSURANCE BUILDING".
Bull's eye window over with flanking cherubs and foliage and
surmounted by a segmental pediment. Doors with 3 panels;
stained glass window to bull's eye. Frieze with cartouche
flanked by cherubs holding ribbons. Corner has 1:2:1
windows with basement entrance under, corner turret
corbelled out above. 1st floor window 1:2:1 with elliptical
heads and transoms, rich cornice over. Similar windows to
turret, which has corbelled polygonal pilasters. 2nd floor
window of 6 round-headed lights with shafts and capitals.
Turret has similar window with arcarded panels under.
Cornice with strapwork panels over. Gable has paired
windows with pilasters and cornice. Framed cartouche with
scrolls and finial over, at top of gable. Turret has round
arcading between pinnacles and short copper spire. Yellow
brick end stacks with stone caps. Left return utilitarian.
