House, now flats. 1873. Mills and Murgatroyd. Rock-faced
stone, ashlar and decorative slate roof. Asymmetrical plan
with 2 storeys (plus attic) and 8 x 5 bays. Victorian
Gothic/Elizabethan. Projecting plinth, quoins, bands,
projecting stone eaves, steep roof, dormer-gables to bays 6
and 8, shaped gables to bays 2 and 4. Bays 1 to 3 have 1, 2
and 3-light mullion windows with transoms and carved
overpanels on the ground floor; sash-windows and an oriel
window on the first floor. Entrance porch in bay 4 has
arched keystone openings on Corinthian columns, weathered
angle-buttresses, cornice, parapet and finials. Above is a
2-light window and a shaped gable with a cusped-light and
finials. 4-storey tower in bay 5 has 2-storey castellated
oriel window supported on column with enriched capital and
carved beast; modillion eaves cornice, pierced parapet and
elaborate weather-vane. Bays 6, 7 and 8 have various 1, 2
and 3-light mullion windows, some with relieving arches.
The east elevation has 3 gables, some traceried lights with
leaded glass and a canted bay window.
