Barn. Mid C17. Timber frame on tarred brick sill, dark weatherboarded
with steep half-hipped roof now covered in corrugated iron. A tall
5-bays barn facing S with double doors in middle bay and small
winnowing door on N opposite. High pitching doors on S to side bays.
Step-jowled posts, unjowled mid-bay posts, staggered mid-height rails,
slender curved braces to irregular tie-beams. Segmental curved collars
and long thin queen-struts to clasped-purlin roof with one purlin in
each slope. Thin curved tension braces above rail. Thin rafters for
thatch. Long straight wind-braces in end bays. Long splayed scarf joints
next posts in wallplates and purlins.
