House. C17 with C18 alterations. Sandstone rubble with plinth, quoins and
ashlar dressings; Welsh slate roof with left yellow brick chimney and right
ashlar chimney, and stone gable coping. Two storeys, four bays. Partly-glazed
6-panel door, in plain stone surround with moulded stone hood, in third bay.
Chamfered 4-light window with renewed stone mullions on ground floor at left;
stone-mullioned 3-light windows in third bay on both floors; other windows C20
in plain stone surrounds. End chimneys, both corniced, the right on plinth.
Left return gable has two small chamfered lights on first floor, the left with
iron bar, and one in gable at front; right return gable has ground-floor sash
with fine glazing bars in plain stone surround at rear; and one chamfered
window at rear of gable. Rear elevation shows full-width outshut with catslide
roof and inserted dormers.

INTERIOR: stone-flagged floor; wide stone fireplace surround in left room has
flat-Tudor-arched lintel below wide irregular wood relieving beam, notched at
right. Dogleg closed-string stair has moulded panelled grip handrail on twist-
and-urn balusters, panelled rectangular newels with moulded pendants, and
string with abacus, acanthus and dentilled mouldings and pulvinated frieze,
through all floors into roof. Roof has collared trusses with slightly bowed
tie beams and two levels of purlins. Some 2- and 3-panelled C18 doors, and some
8-panel C17 doors with C20 fittings, perhaps introduced from elsewhere since
this was part of the Hamsterley Hall estate (q.v.).
