Chest tomb above brick vault. c1913. By Ernest Newton and
Laurence Turner. Limestone. Rectangular plan C18-style chest
on stepped base. Long sides have inscribed panels flanked by
pilasters with carved swags and foliar drops. End has carved
winged coat of arms. Moulded stepped lid. HISTORICAL NOTE:
Norman Shaw, champion of the Queen Anne architectural revival,
built several local houses including No.6 Ellerdale Road (qv)
for himself and which can be seen from the churchyard.
